People Before Profit

From its founding in 1985 with just two bays and two employees, Gurney’s Automotive Repair has grown to 29 employees and two locations, the original in Nashua, and their second location in Milford.

Founders Bill Gurney and his best friend and wife, Charlotte, believe that their core value of having honesty and integrity in every aspect of life, has served them well both professionally and personally. “We’ve successfully built our business by doing the right thing” says Bill. (To see a complete list of core values go to gurneysautomotive.com).

“Simply put, we put people in front of profit. That is for our employees as well as our customers. It’s a core value that cannot change. I like to say that car fixing is what we do, but we’re really in the people business because caring about people is what we do best at Gurney’s. I love people and want to make auto repair stress free. We all have enough stress; we shouldn’t have to worry about our cars, too.”

He adds, “It’s easy to say ‘we care about your car,’ but we care about you, your family and your car. At the end of the day, we care way more about you and your family than your car.”

Allowing honesty and integrity to be guiding factors at work has enabled Gurney’s to contribute to the quality of life and the success of its employees and customers. For instance, keeping customers safe in their vehicles is important to the team at Gurney’s. The shop believes all customers deserve safe, reliable transportation so they can travel to work, take their children to school, transport a loved one to the doctor or travel on vacation with peace of mind that their vehicles are operating at optimum efficiency.

“We are not old-fashioned about how we fix your car or in the technology we use to repair your vehicle, but we are very old-fashioned in how we treat people. We treat everyone with respect.

Gurney’s only employs fully qualified, highly skilled and well-trained technicians to work on vehicles left in its care. Many employees have been with the company more than 20 years, and Bill’s other best friend and General Manager, Mark Thibault, has been with their family for over 32 years.

“These are awesome people who are committed to this company,” Bill said. “We treat them well, and they in turn, treat our customers really well.”

Because Gurney’s is dedicated to the quality of service it provides, it stands behind every repair it makes, and does something unique to the industry. The shop’s commitment includes an unheard of 2-year or 24,000-mile warranty on all its repairs.

It also has low-cost loaner cars to help individuals get where they’re going when their cars need additional service or maintenance.

Nearly every time a customer is surveyed, their responses come back with five stars. Probably because Bill and Charlotte’s personalities are evident in the day-to-day customer service at the shop.

“We know customers can get their cars fixed at other shops in town, but we offer quality repairs at a great value and customer service that is second to none,” Bill said. “Our goal is that we want other businesses to say ‘we need customer service like Gurney’s,’” Bill said.

Customers talk about the fine-tuned operation and how the shop’s employees are highly knowledgeable. They also remark about how well the staff communicates with customers. One even told of being texted after a service visit to see how the car was performing.

Gurney’s believes in delivering quality work. Not only is the shop’s commitment to safety legendary, but its customer satisfaction is more than just a slogan at Gurney’s - it’s a way of life. The award-winning, independent, family-owned shop that has two involved generations and a third generation on its way, has locations in Nashua and Milford, and encourages its employees to give back frequently to make their communities the best in the Granite State.

The shop leads by example, too, and supports such organizations as the Nashua Soup Kitchen, the Milford High School Football team, the Nashua Center, and many others.

Being true to their word is important to the team at Gurney’s Automotive Repair. They stand behind their work and rely on polite professionalism to help put customers at ease. Residents looking for quality work, respectful confidence, and a full spectrum of automotive repair knowledge will find all these qualities in the honest work being done at Gurney’s Automotive Repair.
